The key to a healthy metabolism is being consistent with your health habits. This can be through keeping up your exercise routine, or maintaining a healthy diet – or preferably, both. Eating little and often, combined with staying active is the ideal way to maintain an efficient metabolism.
Many of us make the common mistake of having one or two big meals per day, leaving a few hours in-between where we don’t eat anything. It’s recommended that we eat every three to four hours to maintain a healthy metabolism, giving our body the fuel it needs. It’s best to eat smaller meals at more regular intervals that are packed with protein as this will stimulate calorie-burning cells, thus speeding up your metabolism.
The metabolism is a process that happens within our bodies, and works to break down large molecules to give us the energy we need. Through digestion, the food we eat is converted to energy to help our bodies function. The more active that your metabolism is, the more efficiently your body will use the energy it takes in. For example, for bodies that have a good metabolism, fat will be converted to energy rather than be stored.
