Although we know that the Clarins Super Restorative Facial has fabulous results, why take our word for it?
We asked spa lover Charlotte to experience the treatment herself – want to know how she got on?
‘I will be the first to admit it – I am pretty useless when it comes to looking after myself.
Never quite make it to those long promised exercise classes, live on those awful pasta in a mug things because I don’t have the time or the will to plan ahead and as for a skin care routine … well, I think I keep Boots in business with my face wipe purchases. Maybe there’s a cursory moisturise when I remember but usually I am in a hurry either to get ready for work or to get to bed.
I have promised myself (not a New Year’s resolution I hasten to add as just can’t keep them) to make a little more effort to take a little more care with my skin. Though said with a sharp intake of breath beforehand, I am nearer to 40 than 35 and I need to show my skin a little more kindness.
So when I was offered the opportunity to try the Clarins Super Restorative Facial, I thought this would be the perfect kick start to my turning over a new leaf.
My therapist was a lovely lady called Rachel who put me at ease straight away. She explained that some of the ingredients used in this facial are from the Madagascan Harungana plant and when its leaves drop to the floor, they naturally replenish the soil which surrounds the plant. Therefore, these properties have been harnessed by Clarins to help rejuvenate and regenerate the skin.
So, snuggled on a heated bed, with low lighting and relaxing music tinkling away in the background, I was already feeling ‘in the zone’. A lovely start to the treatment was the use of Relax Oil on the hands and feet to release some amazing aromas into the room and settle my breathing into a slow rhythm. The number of products used in this facial is quite astounding (I have put them in bold so you can see at a glance what good value for money this really is). To start the treatment and cleanse the skin of daily grime Rachel used Melt Cleansing Balm and then a toner to suit my normal to dry skin type. She then applied Gentle Refiner Exfoliator and an exfoliating face lotion which dissolves on the skin and removes dead skin cells. This lotion really tingled but not in an uncomfortable way – it felt as though something was working. What was really noticeable was the fact that this facial did not use the standard sweeping or circular movements you would expect. Instead Rachel used pressing, wave movements which she explained work more effectively to drain toxins and reduce puffiness. Once the exfoliator lotions had been removed with toasty-warm mitts, the work on lifting and contouring my skin began. A combination of Clarins Contouring Serum, Soothing Facial Supplement and their specialised drainage movements were used. Rachel told me that whilst training in this treatment, she was asked to check her model after working on only one side of her face Rachel said you could so clearly see which side had received the treatment, it was visibly more taught and lifted compared to the ‘neglected’ side. Clarins Double Serum is everywhere in beauty magazines at the moment and that was the next thing applied to my skin (along with Hydrating supplement) as part of a facial massage. This serum contains green banana which helps restore the elasticity and skin structure. Next came the Super Restorative Comfort Mask which is a cream and the placing of the hydra-gel Lifting Mask which covered the jawline, chin, cheeks and nose.
I am not a huge fan of neck and shoulder massage as this is where I carry A LOT of tension and someone prodding at my knots with their knuckles does not appeal. However, Rachel used what can only be described as a pulling movement, placing her hands under my shoulder blades and pulling my tensions away one hand at a time with an almost rocking motion. I could feel the muscles being worked but it didn’t make me wince or jolt. Amazing!!
The Restoring Neck and Décolleté Mask was then applied.
A scalp massage followed which was super relaxing and then the treatment wrapped up with a hand and arm massage using Hand and Nail Treatment Cream and then a foot massage with Foot Beauty Treatment Cream.
70 glorious minutes in which I felt like I’d had at least 4 treatments in one.
What did I love about this facial?
Would I have this facial again?
